Jean-Charles Kien visual artist

Μηδὲν ἄγαν

“Jean-Charles Kien (b. 1987) is a French-Italian visual artist.

His work is rooted in highly structured and normalized concepts. Through a predefined system of creation, he seeks to achieve balance, clarity, and harmony. Each project follows a precise and rigorous framework. As a result, rules governing structure, proportions, and color are carefully established before the creative process begins.

Consequently, the resulting aesthetic is minimalist, geometric, and radical. It reflects the principles of the Concrete Art movement, founded in 1930, which advocates for a purely objective visual language.

In this tradition, both his artworks and exhibitions affirm his position within the field of radical geometric abstraction.

Jean-Charles Kien has followed an unconventional career path. After graduating in architecture and design from the University of Strasbourg, he began exploring the relationship between art and design. This dialogue soon became a central focus of his research. Over time, his interest in artistic practice grew stronger and gradually took precedence.

After several years working in architecture and design, he chose to devote himself entirely to art. This decisive transition took place in 2016 during a stay in Shanghai, China. Since then, his work has been presented in numerous exhibitions across Europe and internationally.

Furthermore, his commitment to geometric abstraction led him to establish SYMETRIA Editions in 2019. The publishing house specializes in screen-printing techniques and is dedicated to contemporary geometric abstraction.

Today, as editor and art director of SYMETRIA, he collaborates with leading contemporary artists. At the same time, he actively supports the emergence of a new generation of talents.”
