Jean-Charles Kien's B1X2 original set of two vertical black fabric banners featuring aggressive geometric patterns structured on an isometric grid, displayed in the industrial interior of the Swatch Art Peace Hotel in Shanghai.

Banners hold a specific cultural significance in Chinese and broader Asian contexts. While maintaining the recurring principles that define my practice, this project aims to fully exploit the banner’s brutal verticality through the use of an aggressive, high-contrast pattern.

The B1X2 set, each piece measuring 0.5 × 2.5 m, is constructed on an isometric grid in which each triangular unit measures 5 cm in height.

This strict geometric framework counterbalances the visual intensity of the motif, positioning the works between cultural reference, graphic impact, and structural discipline.
