Jean-Charles Kien (b. 1987) is a French-Italian visual artist.
His work revolves around highly normalized concepts. The aim is to achieve balance and harmony through a predetermined system of creation, applying a precise and rigorous framework to all of his work—defining rules for structure, proportions, and even color. The aesthetics resulting from this dogma are minimalist, geometric, and radical, echoing the philosophy of the Concrete Art movement founded in 1930.
Jean-Charles’s career follows an atypical path. After graduating in architecture and design from the University of Strasbourg, he focused on exploring the intersections between art and design, a central theme in his work. As his research evolved, he developed a growing passion for the practice of art.
After several years in the field of product design, he decided to dedicate himself fully to art. This transition occurred in 2016 during a stay in Shanghai, China, and was followed by numerous exhibitions in Europe and abroad.
His commitment to art led him, in 2019, to co-found Symetria Studio with printer C. Savioz, a publishing house specialized in screen printing techniques and devoted to geometric abstraction. As editor and art director of Symetria Studio, he collaborates with some of the most prominent artists of our time and supports the emergence of new talents.
